Postgraduate Taught Programmes (MSc and MBA)

Welcome from, Postgraduate Director of Programmes

Dear MSc and MBA Students,

Mrs Carol Masters's photoWelcome and congratulations for securing your place to study an MSc programme at Southampton Business School! I hope you are having a good summer. You will be joining one of our 23 postgraduate taught programmes and a cohort of over 1000 new Masters students in the Business School alone! As well as being a large group of students you will all be coming from across the globe to study with us so this is the perfect opportunity to make friends and connect with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

We have created this site to welcome you to Southampton Business School, introduce you to some of the support that’s available to help your studies and provide links to online activities that will help to prepare you for university.

Depending on your programme, you may have been emailed some recommendations for reading over the summer. If not don’t worry, I’d like to reassure you that there will be plenty of time for you to access the literature when you arrive! If you want to practice reading for a masters degree you could consider regularly reading some of the quality business newspapers related to your field of study.

You will be assigned to a Personal Academic Tutor when you arrive and they will be able to help you with pastoral and academic matters. In addition to academic staff we also have 4 Peer Advisors whose details are on this site and I would encourage you to speak with them when you arrive if you require peer support while you study that you may not want to ask an academic about. They are happy to help in person or online and having just finished their MSc’s with us they are keen to help ‘hit the ground running’ with your studies.

I’d also like to encourage you all to take the time to read our University of Southampton student charter  this sets out expectations, rights and responsibilities all our staff and students have as members of the university community.

I look forward to meeting you at induction. We’re excited to see you, please enjoy your summer and come to us ready to learn!

Kind regards,

Carol Masters
