1. Winchester Cathedral

Winchester Cathedral, one of the most iconic and historically significant landmarks in Winchester, England, is renowned for its exquisite stained-glass windows, with some dating back to the 14th century, notably the masterpiece known as the Great West Window. Additionally, the cathedral serves as the final resting place of the famous novelist Jane Austen, commemorated with a memorial and a brass plaque, while it remains a vibrant center of worship, regularly hosting religious services and events.

2. Winchester Castle

Winchester Castle’s history dates back to the late 11th century when it was founded by William the Conqueror, the first Norman king of England. One of the most iconic features of Winchester Castle is the Great Hall. This is because the hall houses the famous King Arthur’s Round Table. While the table is not authentic and was likely created in the 13th century, it has become a symbol of the Arthurian legend and chivalry. It remains a popular attraction for visitors.

3. Viewing Platform

Climb to the top and you’ll have stunning panoramic views of the city of Winchester and the surrounding countryside. The Winchester Christmas Market typically runs from late November to just before Christmas and features numerous wooden chalets selling a wide variety of seasonal goods, gifts, food, and drinks. It’s a fantastic place to soak up the holiday spirit. You can enjoy mulled wine, traditional German bratwurst, unique handmade gifts, and much more. The Christmas Market is often set up in the city center, specifically around the Cathedral Close, which adds to the magical atmosphere with the cathedral as a backdrop.

1. Hat Fair Festival

Hat Fair Festival, it is one of the UK’s outdoor art festival. The festival’s name, Hat Fair comes from the tradition that money will be put into the hat after the show to show appreciation to the performances. This festival usually happens from June 30th 2024 to July 1 2024.

2. Music Festival

At the outermost part of Winchester, there is a music festival called Boomtown. Boomtown is a music festival that brings about numbers of artists to show, giving it 5 days straight of the event to experience the fun and vibrant vibes in Materley Estate.

1. Cultural Events

Throughout the year, there are many solo and group performances, talks, and lectures run by the University of Winchester. In addition, there are shows and performances, exhibitions, and many more at Theatre Royal Winchester and The Arc.

2. Family Events

On 1 December 2017, the ESO Science Outreach Network (ESON) gathered together at the ESO Headquarters in Garching bei MĂźnchen, Germany. They had the chance to visit the newly built ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre and to watch a fulldome show at its planetarium.

For family events, there are several events including science shows, live demonstrations, and star gazing evenings set up by the Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium. In addition, at the Theatre Royal, there are plenty of popular performances and children’s classical shows at the Theatre Royal.

3. Halloween

Ghost walk is a famous walk to explore and discover the magical and haunted spots of Winchester of the town or city. In Winchester, Winchester City Guides organizes and run the Ghost Walks for those who are interested to explore the dark and haunted history of Winchester, and this usually happens during the Halloween period.

4. Christmas

During Christmas, Winchester is one of cities in the UK that can’t be missed. Winvhester Cathedral Christmas Market is one of the most popular market in Europe, due to its festive lights, aroma of wine and cinnamon scent, sounds of Christmas Carol, and numerous shops being exhibited during Christmas period. This year, the Winchester Cathedral will start from November 17th 2023 (Friday) to November 21st 2023 (Thursday) and it is free entry event that everyone can enjoy.
