Student Representation
Student Representation is run by University of Southampton Students Union (SUSU). There are a variety of roles available for students to get involved with wider university life, the one you will probably come into most contact with is your Course Representative or Course Rep. More information about this role is available on the SUSU website.
We encourage Business School students to give us feedback about how we are doing as we strive to continuously improve the student experience. You can give us feedback via the course reps but we also welcome comments and queries either via email (sbsedo@soton.ac.uk) or in person during our staff-student events such as ‘coffee and chat’ the dates of which will be available on the events page of this website.
Course Representatives
There are course reps for each programme and each year group. They are who you speak to if you have concerns about an element of your course. Queries from “my lecturer speaks too quietly” to “can slides be provided for the lectures to aid note taking?” can be fed back to the course reps who can then raise it at Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC).
You can also feed back positive things to them such as a favourite lecturer and why you like them. Course reps cannot give you academic guidance but should be able to help you find sources of support.
You can nominate yourself to be a course rep when you have enrolled by logging in to the Students’ Union webpage . Students then vote for who they think should be the Course Rep for their programme.
Becoming a course rep is a great way to boost your employability and give yourself stories to tell in job applications and interviews. Course reps should make themselves known to you. They will also appear on the SUSU website.
