Personal Academic Tutors (PATs)

A quick introduction to what your PATs do and how they can help you

How do I know who my PAT is?

You PAT should send you an email introducing themselves soon after they have been allocated which can take a couple of weeks. Some PATs may also set up a group meeting with you and your fellow tutees to introduce themselves, but not all will do this, so make sure you check your emails!

How can I meet with my PAT?

If you need to speak to your PAT for support, you can first send them an email. You have the option to either speak by email, have a teams call or meet in person with your PAT, whichever works best for you and your PAT.

You do not have to wait for your PAT to contact you. You must reach out to your PAT and make contact if you wish to speak to them or meet. Please do not hesitate to contact them if you need support, if they are not able to help you, often they can signpost you to someone who can.

No one has told me who my PAT is?

If it has been 6+ weeks since starting university and you still have not been emailed by your PAT and you don’t know who they are, you can confirm this yourself by contacting the SBS Student Advisors: sbsstudentadvisor@soton.ac.uk
